Welcome to Sen Braieth

Lilac-breasted roller, Botswana, 2025

Sen Braieth (Sen Bray-eth) is the predominant world that floats around in my head. It is not the only one. The Real World is all about me, after all, and the wonders therein are inexhaustible. There are other realms of my imagination (Ame Sekai, or Rain World, a sci-fi setting of a futuristic feudal Japan-like planet; Singularity Earth, a near- and far-future postapocalyptic setting recovering from the devastation of “singularity bombs,” which created microscopic black holes that opened portals to other realities; the world of Anno Draconis, a fantastical version of our own Earth history; and more). Countless other worlds (Middle Earth, the Expanse, Westeros, the Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Osten Ard, the Hyborian World, etc.) shared by brilliant minds across the globe, throughout the years, are always present and a joy to explore (and re-explore over and over again, in many instances).

I have over 600 pages of notes on Sen Braieth. I have maps of all six continents, and I have detailed descriptions of all the socio-political divisions in three of them. Each continent has multiple pantheons, and I’ve considerable notes on most of the deities present in those divine families. It’s a dark world, full of vicious politics and disturbing creatures (some classic, such as werewolves and wyverns, some of my own making, often influenced by the works of Lovecraft or Howard). Magic is feared, and dangerous, never to be used lightly. There are heroes and villains, but the vast majority of the populace falls somewhere in between, and even the best (and worst) of the lot walk in shades of gray.

Sen Braieth is me, and I’m Sen Braieth.

This website isn’t so much about the fictional world of my imagination, though I may touch on that now and then. It’s my Author’s Page, and it was created for that intent. More than that, though, it’s a portal into my very mind, the essence of Me. The focus will be on me as a writer, on my journey from my current status as an unpublished wannabe to that of a world-renowned best-selling author (hey, a guy can dream…). What makes a writer isn’t just what they’ve written, any more than a carpenter is just what they’ve built, or a plumber is what they’ve plumbed. In the interest of posterity, so my future-biographer has all the materials readily at disposal (😜), I’ll divulge other thoughts, as well. Some posts will describe what projects I’m working on, what I’m reading, what I’m watching, and what I’m playing (see Where Am I?). Others will be more general, sometimes writing-related, sometimes not (see Meanderings). I may even post some older poems, short stories, and flash fiction (I’ll call it Walking Backwards, if I do, I think), or information about the fictional worlds I’m working on.

At any rate, if you’re here, you’ve an interest in what I have to say. That seems a bit bonkers to me, truth to tell, though I imagine Stephen King or George R.R. Martin felt the same in their early careers (and no, I’m not comparing myself to either of those great artists, though my goal is to develop my talent as best I can in their direction). I’ll try to keep posting on a regular basis, and I hope it’ll prove interesting. I always try to be a gracious host, and you are, after all, a visitor to my mind.

So welcome, once again, to Sen Braieth.
